Located just 9 kilometres off Phuket, Maitong Island has for many years remained one of the most mysterious and exclusive corners of the region. Its seclusion and beauty attracted many dignitaries, including the Crown Prince of Bhutan and prime ministers of Southeast Asian countries. In 1993, by royal decree, the island was taken over by a Korean entrepreneur, making it a private holiday destination for the elite.
With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent restrictions, Maitong Island was closed to the public, and it has remained off-limits to tourist landings ever since. Today, the island is only used as a snorkelling stop on some tours that allow you to admire the underwater world of the surrounding waters, but without the possibility of landing on shore.
Picturesque views and natural attractions Despite access restrictions, the beauty of Mighton Island is still an attraction. A large white beach with clear turquoise water creates the perfect setting for photo shoots and boat trips. Additionally, there is a beautiful freshwater swimming pool on the shore, which used to serve as a recreational area.
Walking along the path that leads to the top of the hill, you will find an observation deck that offers panoramic views of the nearby waters and Phuket. This spot is ideal for those seeking solitude and wanting to enjoy the peace and quiet of a tropical island.
